my approach

My studies in psychology and existentialism have provided a scientific as well as philosophical approach to my practice. I believe the complexity and multi-faceted nature of the human psyche deserves a gentle opening in a warm and safe environment. Basing my approach on existential philosophy, I also consider the body as more than just a vehicle for the mind. One’s psychological and emotional experiences, have an impact on one’s body and vice versa. Similarly, one’s environment has an impact on one’s personal worldview and the body within it which is experiencing that impact. I work with all ages, genders, and backgrounds and offer a non-judgmental space in which you can be yourself, explore your thoughts and emotions, examine the choices you have made and begin to make sense of it all. I assist in this process and help you make meaning of your experiences and find your voice. Often a deep understanding of our experiences helps us process the past, confront and stay in the present, while holding hope for the future.

Not knowing what to talk about or feeling pressure to discuss a struggle are common issues for some people when they first start therapy. I invite you not to pay this too much mind as I believe we communicate with more than just our words and silences can be informative as well as healing. I welcome you as you are at your session time. I offer a relaxed and safe environment where you can be free to share your thoughts, feelings, or experiences that you have difficulty expressing elsewhere due to fear of judgment or expectations. (please note arrival policy in Services and Fees)

As a result of comprehensive doctoral program, I have trained in psychodynamic approaches, cognitive-behavior therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches. My practice is often informed by these models but also rooted in existential-phenomenological psychotherapy. I take the view that each client’s experiences are to be approached with their unique needs in mind. Therefore, I tailor my practice to suit your individual needs from a more wholistic perspective, rather than relying one theory or model. Research as well as my professional experiences have revealed that the most important factor that contributes to the process of psychotherapy is the therapeutic relationship and I aim to develop a trusting relationship with you. It is important to work with a therapist you feel comfortable working with.
